U.S. Food and Drug Administration Approves VelaSmooth for Cellulite Treatment

Santa Monica Laser and Skin Care Center one of the first medical offices selected to offer VelaSmooth during FDA approval process

Santa Monica, Calif.—June 14, 2005—Santa Monica Laser and Skin Care Center, a facility offering the most technologically advanced skin care, today announced that it can officially offer VelaSmooth as a new medical treatment for cellulite. VelaSmooth's manufacturer, Syneron, announced the FDA approval earlier this week.

Cellulite is estimated to affect more than eighty percent of women above the age of 18, and until now, there have been very limited treatment options. Recently the VelaSmooth device became available, giving patients an effective treatment for cellulite. The VelaSmooth is a laser-like device that combines radio frequency and infrared light energies with tissue mobilization. These three treatment modalities work together to safely and effectively improve cellulite and re-contour the skin surface. Because it is a cleared medical device, the VelaSmooth is only sold to physicians for use by trained professionals under medical direction.

The Santa Monica Laser and Skin Care Center is headed by Dr. Mary Lee Amerian, a top Los Angeles dermatologist, who has grown her practice into one of the most successful dermatology practices in LA over the past few years.

About Dr. Amerian

Dr. Mary Lee Amerian graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude as an undergraduate from UCLA and received the Sandoz Award for Excellence in the Behavioral Sciences as a graduate from the UCLA School of Medicine. She interned in Internal Medicine at UCLA Hospital and Medical Center in 1984 and completed her residency in Dermatology in 1987. She currently teaches at UCLA where she holds the title of Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine.

She is a Diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology, a Fellow of both the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, and a member of the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Amerian has been named in L.A. Magazine's list of top doctors in Los Angeles and has been voted by her peers as one of the "Best Doctors in America" consecutively since 1996.

She is also regularly featured on TLC's Ten Years Younger, a television series that uses non-surgical techniques to remove ten years from the participants' appearance.
