I am so pleased with the improvement in my skin after Fraxel treatment. My skin is much smoother, the color is more uniform, and my pores seem smaller too.

The Fraxel laser is a new treatment for age and sun spots, acne scarring, sun damaged skin, and wrinkles around the eyes. The Fraxel laser became available in April of 2004, and Dr. Amerian and Dr. Anterasian were among the first physicians in Southern California to obtain this laser and make it available to their patients. As a result, we have gained extensive experience with the Fraxel laser. In our office, Dr. Anterasian has performed over 400 consecutive Fraxel laser procedures, without any significant adverse events. Our patients have truly enjoyed the smoother, more youthful, and rejuvenated skin that Fraxel laser treatments provide.
The Fraxel laser utilizes a new technology called Fractional Resurfacing. With Fractional Resurfacing Technology, only a fraction of the skin receives the laser light. The laser delivers a series of microscopic closely spaced laser spots to the skin while simultaneously preserving normal healthy skin between the laser spots. This preservation of healthy skin results in rapid healing following the laser treatment. The entire face can be treated with the laser in approximately 45 minutes.
Treatments with the Fraxel laser have no significant recovery downtime. There is no need for pain medicine after the treatment, as any discomfort from the procedure is minimal. Patients can return to work immediately after their treatment or the next day. Optimum results are generally achieved by a series of 4 to 5 treatment sessions spaced three to four weeks apart. Patients have been very pleased with the improvement in their skin's appearance following the laser treatments.
The Fraxel laser is used to treat age spots, sunspots, wrinkles around the eyes, upper lip lines ("smoker's lines"), sun-damaged skin, and acne scars. Today, it is the gold standard for the treatment of acne scars in patients who want to minimize their downtime.
Yes. The Fraxel laser is FDA approved for use in skin resurfacing. It is also FDA approved for use in the correction of pigmented lesions, such as age spots, sun spots, and discolored skin, the treatment of wrinkles around the eyes, and melasma.
In our office, only board certified physicians do the Fraxel Laser treatments, not a nurse. We perform as many as three complete passes over the skin of the face in order to ensure that our patients receive excellent Fraxel results. We spend more than a full hour on every Fraxel laser treatment.
No. Some offices perform fewer passes and complete their Fraxel treatments in 30 minutes; these treatments are less effective. Our office does not recommend or perform these less effective Fraxel laser treatments. Also, in many other physician offices the procedure is performed by a nurse; in our office, only board certified and experienced physicians perform the Fraxel laser procedure.
With each Fraxel laser treatment, approximately 17%-20% of the skin's surface is treated. Therefore, we recommend a series of four or five Fraxel laser treatments to achieve the optimum result. A patient may purchase one Fraxel laser treatment as a trial. Then, if the patient wishes to complete the Fraxel treatment, the cost of the first treatment will be credited toward the price of a package of four or five Fraxel laser treatments. Fraxel laser treatments are performed at two to four week intervals.
Fraxel laser treatments offer rapid healing and minimal downtime. Patients typically have some swelling and redness. The swelling generally subsides in a day or so, and the redness usually fades over a few days. Patients can apply make-up shortly after their treatment and generally return to normal activity the following day. Patients do not have any oozing or crusting after Fraxel laser treatments.
We have been quite pleased with our results from the Fraxel laser. We will be happy to show our results from a few of our patients who underwent Fraxel laser treatment, in order to demonstrate the kind of improvement that the Fraxel can potentially give in skin and facial rejuvenation.
