CoolSculpting by Zeltiq

Who Is It For

The CoolSculpting by Zeltiq procedure reduces fat by cooling it. Ideal candidates for the CoolSculpting by Zeltiq procedure have discrete and localized fat bulges on the abdomen, love handles, inner thighs, and back. CoolSculpting by Zeltiq is especially helpful when the fat bulge cannot be reduced by diet and exercise. CoolSculpting treatments result in noticeable and natural looking fat reduction in the treated areas.

How It Works

The procedure is done by placing the CoolSculpting applicator on the fat bulge for one hour. During this time, the applicator chills the fat. The exposure of the fat to cooling begins a process of natural fat cell removal. The removal of fat occurs gradually over the next three months following the procedure.

There is no discomfort during the time the applicator is on the skin. In order to maintain symmetry, most patients will treat two areas of their body during the treatment session (one area on each side of the body). Patients may do whatever they wish during this time, including reading, working with their electronic devices, or listening to music.

Results

The CoolSculpting by Zeltiq procedure results in visible fat reduction and a lessening of fat bulges. The results occur gradually over a two or three-month period following the procedure. The CoolSculpting procedure is extremely safe. There is minimal discomfort during the procedure, and absolutely no down time after the procedure. There may be mild tenderness after the treatment and a temporary reduction in sensation resulting from the chilling of the tissues. Most patients resume their normal activities, including returning to work and exercise regimens, on the same day as the procedure. Three months after the first procedure, the procedure may be repeated to further enhance the result.

Still Not Sure? — Read our Q & A

  1. What is Coolsculpting by Zeltiq?

Coolsculpting by Zeltiq is an FDA approved treatment that chills the fat in targeted areas for one hour. This causes the fat to crystallize, which leads to a 20-25% reduction of the fat in the treated areas. The fat is gradually removed from the body over the course of a few months.

  2. When will I see results?

The majority of the result becomes visible within the first 8 weeks after treatment, but results continue to improve gradually for an additional two months after that.

  3. Does Coolsculpting really work?

Yes! – Clinical studies have been done to prove that the targeted fat cells are removed from the body without harming the adjacent skin, nerves, muscles, and other tissues. In a controlled clinical study, fat thickness was accurately measured before and after treatment, and results demonstrated consistent and measurable fat reduction in the treated areas.

  4. How was Coolsculpting developed?

The same doctors at the Harvard Medical School who developed laser hair removal, tattoo removal, fractional laser resurfacing, and other non-surgical cosmetic procedures developed the technology behind Coolsculpting.

  5. What happens to the fat after the Coolsculpting procedure is completed?

The fat is slowly absorbed and metabolized by the body in the same way that dietary fat is metabolized.

  6. On what parts of the body can Coolsculpting be performed?

Coolsculpting is most commonly performed on the upper and lower abdomen and on the love handles in both men and women. It may also be used on any other area of the body where a fat bulge can be drawn up into the Coolsculpting applicator, such as on back fat or on the inner thighs.

  7. Can Coolsculpting be used more than once in the same area?

Yes. There is no limit on the number of times that Coolsculpting can be performed. 20-25% of the remaining fat will be removed with each treatment.

  8. How far apart can Coolsculpting treatments be done?

Coolsculpting treatments can be performed at 2-month intervals.

  9. Who is an appropriate candidate for Coolsculpting?

Ideal Coolsculpting candidates are at or near their ideal body weight, but have extra fat bulges in a specific area or areas.

  10. Who is not a candidate for Coolsculpting?

Coolsculpting is not appropriate for patients who are obese or significantly overweight. It is also not appropriate for patients who are pregnant or who have skin sensitivity to cold.

  11. Are there any restrictions following Coolsculpting treatment?

No, there are not any restrictions after the Coolsculpting procedure is completed. All regular activities, including work and exercise programs, may be resumed immediately after treatment.

  12. How long do Coolsculpting results last?

Fat loss following Coolsculpting is permanent because fat cells do not regenerate. Therefore, results from Coolsculpting should last for many years.
